The fine print, in plain words
Privacy & terms.
Draft, not yet reviewed. This page explains in plain language what Speaker Guide does today. The owner still needs to review it, and it is not legal advice.
The short version
- Speaker Guide is for entertainment and historical interest only. It's not a substitute for real help or for A.A.
- Bill W. and Dr. Bob, at the Kitchen Table, are AI characters based on the historical men. They are not the real people, and they are not doctors, counselors or sponsors.
- Speaker Guide is not affiliated with or endorsed by Alcoholics Anonymous or A.A. World Services.
- You must be 18 or older.
- Your conversations are kept on your device. We don't keep a copy.
- Your messages pass through our server to OpenAI so Bill or Bob can reply. We don't store them.
- No ads, and no analytics or tracking code.
Not medical advice
Nothing in Speaker Guide is medical, psychological or professional advice. If you drink heavily or every day, don't stop suddenly on your own: alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous. Talk to a doctor, or go to a hospital or detox. Speaker Guide can't replace a doctor, a counselor, a sponsor or a meeting.
Who we are
Speaker Guide is an independent project. Questions or requests: contact email to be added.
Your account
- You sign in with an email and password. Our account provider, Supabase, holds them. Supabase stores your password in a scrambled (hashed) form, and we never see it.
- Your account also records whether you confirmed you're 18 or older.
- For the free daily allowance, we count how many messages you send each day. That's a number only, not your words.
- To delete your account, email us at the address above.
Your conversations
- Conversations are saved in this browser on your device. They aren't backed up or synced to your other devices.
- Signing out doesn't erase them, so anyone using this browser could read them. If that matters to you, start the conversation over when you're done.
- To erase a conversation, open it and choose ⋯ → Start the conversation over. To erase everything, clear this site's data in your browser settings. We can't recover lost conversations.
Where your messages go
The app sends the recent part of the conversation (up to the last 40 messages) to our server, which runs on Supabase. The server checks that you're signed in, adds his character notes and the book, and passes it to OpenAI. His reply comes straight back to you. We tell OpenAI not to store the conversation, and our server doesn't save your messages. OpenAI handles what it receives under its own policies, which can include keeping requests for a limited time to check for abuse.
Speaker talks play straight from the library's own audio server. That server sees ordinary connection details, like any website. What you save, your playlists, what you've played and where you left off are kept only on this device.
Other services
The app is hosted on Cloudflare, loads its fonts from Google Fonts and some code from jsDelivr. Like any website, these see ordinary connection details such as your IP address. Supabase keeps routine technical logs of requests to our server (such as times and errors), not the text of your messages.
The likenesses
Bill W. and Dr. Bob's likenesses and words at the Kitchen Table are built from historical accounts of the two men: their own writings, letters and talks, and what others recorded about them. They are representations only, not the men themselves, and nothing they say should be taken as what the real men said, thought or lived. The real men may have been very different, though we do our best to keep them true to life as they presented themselves.
The basket
- Speaker Guide isn't affiliated with or run by Alcoholics Anonymous. When the day's free conversation runs out, Bill or Bob passes the basket, the A.A. way.
- Giving is voluntary and unlocks nothing. Gifts help pay for running Speaker Guide.
- Gifts go through the services shown in the basket (such as Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, Square or Stripe), under their own terms and privacy policies. We see what those services show us (usually your name and the amount) and use it for nothing else.
- Speaker Guide is not a charity, and contributions aren't tax-deductible.
Using Speaker Guide
- Adults only. You must be 18 or older, and you confirm it before you start. If you think someone under 18 has an account, tell us and we'll remove it.
- They're AI characters. Their replies are written by AI from historical research and can be wrong. They speak as the men did in their own time (Bill W. in 1970, Dr. Bob in 1950), not for A.A. today.
- Keep it decent. Explicit content isn't part of Speaker Guide.
- Be decent. Don't use the app to break the law or to harm anyone, and don't try to overload or break the service. We may limit or close accounts that do.
- No guarantees. The app is provided as it is. It may change, have outages, or stop.
Real help
- In crisis or thinking about suicide: call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, US). In danger right now: call 911 or your local emergency number.
- A.A. meetings: aa.org, or the free Meeting Guide app.
- Families and friends of drinkers: al-anon.org.
- Treatment and detox options (US): SAMHSA National Helpline, 1-800-662-4357, free, confidential, 24/7.
Changes
We'll update this page when the app changes. Draft of October 16, 2026.
